Error description

  • When a WebSphere MQ base Java application is passed the
    MQTM2 structure as an application argument and the application
    queries its properties like Version and Application Type, the
    MQTM2.getVersion() and MQTM2.getApplType()
    methods return unexpected values.

    For example, a hex dump of the Version field contains
    x'20202032' or character '   2'. The getVersion()method
    interprets this as an integer and returns 538976306.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
    This issue affects users of the WebSphere MQ (WMQ) v7 classes
    for Java who attempt to query the Version and ApplType
    properties of a trigger message (MQTM2) from a WMQ Java
    application that is started by the trigger monitor in response
    to a trigger event.

    Platforms affected:
    All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows) +Java
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
    When a WMQ Base Java application, which is started by a trigger
    monitor, queries the Version and ApplicationType trigger message
    properties using getVersion() and getApplType() methods,
    unexpected values are returned.

Problem conclusion

  • The MQTM2 class which represents the Trigger Message, extended
    its structure from the MQTM class. However, the MQTM2 was not a
    simple continuation of MQTM - the data types of Version and
    ApplType were different (though they were of the same size).
    The MQTM2 class has now been rewritten to prevent the change in
    data types.
