Error description

  • The Java Message Service (JMS) client application receives a
message using asynchronous delivery under a transacted session.
It encounters a NullPointerException, and an FDC is generated
    with the following Exception stack:

    Exception :- ExceptionDepth is 2

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
This issue affects WebSphere MQ V7 classes for JMS applications
that connect to a version 6 queue manager and receive messages
    asynchronously using Message Listeners.

    Platforms affected:
All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows) +Java
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The NullPointerException occurred if the Message Listener
thread was processing a message asynchronously at the same time
as another application thread tried to stop the Listener.

The stop operation removed the Listener's reference to the JMS
Session used to process the message before the message
processing had completed. This led to a NullPointerException
when the Message Listener thread came to commit the message it
had just processed using its JMS Session.

Problem conclusion

  • The stop operation no longer removes the Listener's reference
to the JMS Session it is using. This allows any outstanding
message processing to complete before the Message Listener is
    stopped.
