Error description

  • When a multi-threaded C++ client application connects to the
queue manager, the connect fails with a 2219
(MQRC_CALL_IN_PROGRESS) and an FDC with Probe Id XC130031
    and Component xehExceptionHandler is produced.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Any users of WebSphere MQ connecting to the queue manager with
client-bound applications which provide an MQCD version lower
    than 9.

    Platforms affected:
All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows)
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The problem was caused by the caching mechanism being used for
the handling of shared conversations within the MQ client. The
caching mechanism in use was based on unique MQCD structures
associated with a particular connection. As a result, when
adding the MQCD associated with a new connection into the
cache, MQ was not checking the length of the MQCD passed in and
was assuming that it was a version 9 MQCD. This would cause a
buffer overrun of the MQCD to occur, resulting in a read access
    violation.

Problem conclusion

  • WebSphere MQ was modified to ensure that it does not attempt to
copy more bytes from the ClientConnPtr provided MQCD than the
size of the specific version of the MQCD provided.
