Error description

  • CSV file containing metadata about Data Files is being
converted and imported using istool workbench generate. The
file appears to convert and load successfully. However, when
the user views the field metadata in IGC the length property is
missing and there are no messages or warnings that these
    properties were not loaded.

    +++ Data File Field - begin +++
    Name,Host,Data File,Data File Structure,Path,Description,ODBC
    Type,Data Type,Native
    Type,Length,Unique,Nullability,Fraction,Position

    t_Data/2017/acus9/201708
    ,,,,VARCHAR,5.0,,false,,2
    +++ Data File Field - end +++

When viewed in IGC the length property is not displayed.

There was no indication from istool that there was an issue
with the metadata in the CSV file. It converted successfully
with istool workbench generate command and imported
successfully with istool import command. The user expects tan
error raised and a non-zero return code if any of the content
of the CSV file is invalid.

Local fix

  • This works as designed. "5.0" is an invalid value for Length.
The value must be integer. When detecting a corrupted value the
attribute gets an empty value for types with precision and
scale (ex: Decimal). Decimal, CSV format for workbench
generate has separate columns: length and fraction, both type
    integer.

Problem summary

  • *********************************************
    APAR Users Affected:
    *********************************************
The users that use the IGC and run the istool for converting the
CVS files to the other format (ISX). The files are for Database
     objects creation.

    *********************************************
    APAR Problem Description:
    *********************************************
The istool does not write warnings when there is incorrect data
format for database objects values, for example the Column
Length value is in decimal format, but not in integer (for
    example: 245.4 instead of 245).
