APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Long running ODBC Connector read jobs which connect to DB2
z/OS might fail whenever the job run time exceeds idle thread
timeout (IDTHTOIN) setting on the DB2 z/OS server. The error
message could be one of the following, "socket closed" or
"connection dead" or "permanent agent error".

Local fix

  • 1) Set Auto Commit Mode to On in the ODBC Connector stage
properties
2) Increase the idle thread timeout setting (IDTHTOIN) on the
DB2 z/OS Server

Problem summary

  • Long running ODBC Connector read jobs connecting to DB2 z/OS
database abort with "socket closed" or "connection dead" or
"permanent agent error" message when the idle thread timeout is
exceeded.

Problem conclusion

  • Code has been corrected to overcome this problem.

Temporary fix

  • Set Auto Commit Mode to ON in the ODBC connector stage
properties and/or increase the idle thread timeout on the DB2
z/OS Server.
