JR53571: POOR PERFORMANCE WITH XML CONNECTOR IN IS 9.1.2 COMPARED TO IS 8.5

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Running the same datastage job using the XML connector in IS
  9.1.2 it runs slower than in IS 8.5. However, when setting the
  "Enable Logging" as "No" within the XML connector in the IS
  9.1.2 job. Then the job runs the same as the IS 8.5 job. In the
  IS 8.5 job run the "Enable Logging" is not being set. Meaning
  that any jobs migrated from IS 8.5 to IS 9.1.2 will need to me
  modified and set the "Enable Logging" as "No" within the XML
  connector to achieve the same job run times as the IS 8.5
  release.
  

Local fix

• As a workaround. You can set the set the "Enable Logging" as
  "No" within the XML connector properties.
  

Problem summary

• Performance drops when Enable Logging is setting as yes than
  setting as no, even though there's nothing get logged.
  

Problem conclusion

• There's a piece of debug code in RNodeXMLBalueBase.java slow
  down the performance once Enable Logging is set as yes. The fix
  is add a condition to run that piece of code only when DEBUG
  level is set.
  

Temporary fix

• Patch JR53571
