Error description
This problem happens on Information Server 9.1 and later on Windows systems only. This is an intermittent failure. Parallel jobs will have this fatal message in the log: APT_IOPort::readBlkVirt: read for block header, partition 0, [fd 4], returned -1 with errno 10,054 (Unknown error) Even though the error is listed as FATAL, the job does not abort. APAR JR51661 was created to force a job failure when the failure occurred. This APAR covers the root cause of the IO error.

Problem conclusion
A patch is available which fixes the problem in the IO Code. However, similar error messages have been reported which may not be related to IO issues.
