JR45622: Error 52 (bad file name or number) when opening the Match Designer

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The Match Designer initialization process includes
confirmation that the ODBC DSN (Data Source Name)
specified in the Match Designer Test Environment is
operational on both the client and server systems. To
do this, the path to the current DataStage/QualityStage
(DS/QS) project is determined and then an attempt is
made to determine whether this path exists on the system
where the Match Designer client is installed. An error
is occurring when an attempt is made to search a drive
that does not contain any media (such as an empty CD
drive). For example, this error will occur if all of
    the following conditions are met:
    - The DS/QS client and server are located on separate
      systems.
    - The current DS/QS project is located on the server
      system's D-drive.
    - The D-drive on the client system is a CD drive that
      does not contain a CD.

Local fix

  • The simplest way to get past this problem is to place
any CD in the D-drive of the client system when opening
the Match Designer. The presence of this CD path search
and the error should not occur.

Problem conclusion

  • Improve the path checking so as to not be confused by checking
    an empty CDROM drive.
