APAR status

Error description

  • ISALite tool running "SyncProject" utility upon large projects
    (several thousands of Jobs) may abort with error as :
    ----
    An unexpected error occurred retrieving the project status for
    project 'ProjectName'.
    An error occured when trying to call subroutine
    "*DataStage*DSR_SYNCPROJECT" in project "ProjectName".
    ----
    This error have been proven to be caused by a timeout issue at
    near 5 minutes caused by large project to be inspected, as
    several "Server" traces of the report "failing" in various
    large projects show that "SyncProject" took longer than 5
    minutes and less than 10 minutes to complete.
    The "-report" action of SyncProject involves a call to
    DSR_SYNCPROJECT(DSR.SUB.SYNCPROJ.CHECKJOBFILES) which checks all
    of the per/job files in a project, this is the only call that is
    likely to consume significant amounts of time.
    
    Enhancement is requested to increase ISALite timeout to report
    actual results for large projects regarding call to subroutine :
    DSR_SYNCPROJECT(DSR.SUB.SYNCPROJ.CHECKJOBFILES)

Local fix

  • Workaround :
    - Use "server side tracing" to capture the whole results of the
    "SYNCPROJECT" actions if such a failure occurs after the tool
    took a long time running, but no "core" file is found in the
    project's directory.

Problem summary

  • SyncProject tool makes a single client-server subroutine call
    that processes all job related
      files in a project. This call can take longer than the default
    timeout of 300 seconds for a
      larger project.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Changed the timeout for the problematic call to 1200 seconds
    which will allow for much larger
      projects.
