JR44271: INFORMATION SERVER JOB RECEIVES 'UNSUPPORTED DATA TYPE: 108' WHEN USING GENERATED SQL WITH ORACLE CONNECTOR.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Information Server (IS) 8.7 job with Oracle Connector stage
  cannot insert/update a table containing columns of unsupported
  type (even though said columns are not present in the schema).
  The error received in the DataStage job log is:
  
  
  Unsupported data type: 108.

  This worked at IS version 8.5.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

• Oracle Connector users inserting/updating to a table with
  unsupported columns (but avoiding said columns) and using
  generated SQL.
  
  During job startup, an error similar to the following will occur
  if the table has a column of an unsupported type, even though
  that column is not in the stage input schema:
  
  Unsupported data type: 108.

Problem conclusion

• When selecting bind charset forms the connector will describe a
  "SELECT *" statement on the table (cannot use the stage input
  schema in case there are columns destined to be dropped).  These
  columns no longer need be of supported type (unsupported columns
  will be ignored at this point).
  

Temporary fix

• Set "Generated SQL" to "No" and provide a SQL statement.
