Error description

  • When writing a date before the year 1582 to a DB2 database using
    the DB2 API Stage, the year written to the database differs from
    the date supplied in the DataStage job. When using 8.1 Fixpack 1
    everything works fine. When using DB2 Connector stage everything
    is OK, too. e.g. the date 0001-01-01 is passed to the database
    where it is stored as 0001-01-30. More bad conversion examples
    are hereunder.

      0001-01-01 -> 0001-01-30.
      0001-01-02 -> 0001-12-31
      1171-01-01 -> 1171-01-08
      1582-10-13 -> 1582-10-23
      1582-10-14 -> 1582-10-04

Problem summary

  • From the list of problematic DATE values mentioned below,

    1. 0001-01-01 -> 0001-01-30.
    2. 0001-01-02 -> 0001-12-31
    3. 1171-01-01 -> 1171-01-08
    4. 1582-10-13 -> 1582-10-23
    5. 1582-10-14 -> 1582-10-04

    the issue with the first three DATE values is resolved by the
    APAR JR38700.

    The DATE values mentioned in the #4 and #5 are due to the ICU's
    dependency. Hence, the Cut-over dates rule is being applied to
    the DATE values for the DATEs ranging from 5th Oct 1582 to 14th
    Oct 1582.

    It is observed that out of all the Cutover DATE values, except
    for the DATE "1582-10-14" all the other DATEs in the CUTOVER
    period gets added with 10 days consistently.
    Hence to make the behavior consistent APAR JR40750 fixes the
    issue with the particular DATE "1582-10-14".

    Please note that JR40750 will Not solve the issue with the
    Cutover DATE values, but only guarantees the expected DATE
    values derived for the DATEs ranging from 5th Oct 1582 to 14th
    Oct 1582.

Problem conclusion

  • While all the DATEs falling in the mentioned range are added by
    10 days, the DATE 1582-10-14 is not derived as expected.

    After the Fix all the DATE values falling in the Cut-Over range
    behaves consistently as per the Cut-over rules.
