Error description

  • When created into oracle as CHAR(n CHAR), the column is imported
as n*3+2 and padded with spaces. The spaces are not required.

Local fix

  • Convert to Varchar to trim directly.

Problem summary

  • CHAR columns are padded with spaces.

Problem conclusion

  • Length of buffer was increased to handle UTF8, but was also
being used later as the number of bytes to convert to selected

Temporary fix

  • Use VARCHAR
