JR39895: ORACLE CONNECTOR FAILS TO READ/WRITE ACCENTED CHARACTERS WHEN USING RUNTIME COLUMN PROPAGATION.

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When reading or inserting records with accented characters using
oracle connector with Runtime column propagation, following
    error is issued:

When I try to read the tables with an oracle connector the error
    "ORA-
    01406" is returned.

Local fix

  • switch off runtime column propagation

Problem summary

  • The Oracle Connector stage in RCP mode importing character
columns with character semantics as DataStage Varchar(N) type
where N is the number of characters in the Oracle column. This
is not correct because DataStage stores only 1 byte per column
for DataStage Char or Varchar datatypes.

Problem conclusion

  • The solution is to import Oracle character semantic columns as
DataStage National columns (NVarchar/NChar) to accommodate the
possible multibyte characters. We are already doing this for
    non-RCP modes.

Temporary fix
