APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• There is a problem with compressed datasets using fixed length
  unicode fields, and APT_OLD_BOUNDED_LENGTH.
  

Local fix

• Use uncompressed datasets using old bounded length, DataSets do
  not consume much more space than comparable file sets.
  

Problem summary

• Using the pcompress soperator with the following scenario would
  produce empty data for char() fields in some occasions:
  1.  Utilize the Compress/Expand process
  2.  Provide a fixed length character field
  3.  Set character field as Unicode.
  4.  Set the environment variable APT_OLD_BOUND_LENGTH.
  
  Using the above scenario gives  empty data fields. Any deviation
  to this process would yield correct results.
  

Problem conclusion

• The code for figuring  out alignment and size was  for aggregate
  type fields,
  which caused empty fields when the data was uncompressed.
  This has been corrected with the patch and for future versions.
