Error description

  • The issue involves Oracle Connector stage, or Distributed
Transaction Stage configured to use Oracle Connector.

The stage is configured to perform Insert then update operation
on the target table, and the Array size is set to a value
    greater than 1.

The target table contains one or more Timestamp columns with
    fractional seconds.

The job fails with the error: The OCI function
    OCIDateTimeConstruct returned status -2: OCI_INVALID_HANDLE.

The job works correctly if Array size is set to 1.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
DataStage users with jobs that use Oracle Connector stage or
Distributed Transaction Stage configured to use Oracle Connector
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
The Oracle Connector stage is used to write data to the database
in Insert then update write mode. One or more columns on the
input link of the stage are defined as Timestamp columns with
    the Scale greater than 0.

The Array size property in the stage is set to a value greater
    than 1.

In some cases, the job fails with the error message reporting
that the Oracle OCI method returned status OCI_INVALID_HANDLE.

    ****************************************************************
    RECOMMENDATION:
    Install patch JR37478.
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • A bug in the connector was fixed which was causing incorrect
handling of records that failed to be inserted to the target
table due to unique constraint violation and that then had to be
reused to update the corresponding existing rows in the target
    table.
