JR35516: DISABLING A SERVICE PROVIDER VIA THE INFORMATION SERVER CONSOLE CAUSES THREAD HANGS IN WEBSPHERE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• During the load testing a hanging condition will occur when
  requests are being processed by a job and the provider is
  disabled (from the ISD console).  Any requests that are in the
  pipeline for the job will then hang, causing thread hangs in
  WebSphere until the ASBAgent is restarted.  If the provider is
  enabled without restarting the ASBAgent, future requests will
  receive Queue Limit Exceeded exceptions.

Problem summary

  USERS AFFECTED:
  Anyone using an Information Services Director input stage on the
  parallel canvas.
  ****************************************************************
  PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
  If the Information Services Director input stage encounters a
  timeout during its initialization, it could lead to a hang
  state by that stage. The will result in threads in the ASBAgent
  being hung and also threads in the app server being hung.
  ****************************************************************
  RECOMMENDATION:
  The best fix for this is to change the timeout of the ISD Input
  Stage to allow enough time for the job to initialize without it
  timing out.  Applying the patch (apar_jr35516) will cause the
  job to abort if a timeout occurs.

Problem conclusion

• The Information Services Director input stage has been fixed to
  raise an error condition when a timeout is encountered during
  initialization.  This fix will be in version 8.1 FixPack2 of
  InfoSphere and is also available as a patch
