Error description

  • Oracle Connector is used to load data to VARCHAR2 column in the
    database.

The column on the input link of the stage is defined as VarChar.

The input data is encoded using character set encoding that is
compatible with the DataStage NLS map name in effect for the
job, the character set specified in the NLS_LANG environment
variable, and the target database character set.

The data is loaded but is corrupted.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
DataStage parallel job users who load data to Oracle tables
    using Oracle Connector
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
The character data was ending up corrupted during the bulk load
process. The NLS map name for the job and the character set
identifier in the NLS_LANG environment variable were both set to
    match the actual character
set encoding of the data. The database character set was
compatible with the character set of the data. Still the loaded
data was ended up corrupted with some of the characters replaced
    by invalid characters.

    ****************************************************************
    RECOMMENDATION:
    Apply patch JR34952.
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • The code was fixed to correctly present character set encoding
of the data to Oracle client so that the data can be loaded
correctly with all of the characters preserved.
