Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
    Client systems using Designer, dscmdimport or dsimport to
    import DSX files
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
    Under certain circumstances DSX imports performed through the
    Designer, dscmdimport or dsimport can take a long time to
    complete, with the progress dialog remaining unchanged
    throughout that time.
         At this stage of the
    import, just before the end, DataStage tries to connect
    related repository objects together (ie column in a job related
    to a column in a table definition). This process will load
    the repository objects, connect them together and save them
    again, as necessary.
          The problem that can occur for
    certain objects, is that once one object has been loaded it
    is immediately free'd from memory and then loaded again, free'd
    again etc. This cycle repeats many times for the same object
    and hence causes a large unnecessary delay before the
    import finishes.
    ****************************************************************
    RECOMMENDATION:
    Install the patch. Note the patch is also included in the "8.1
    Critical Performance Patch".
    This change is included in 8.1 Fix Pack 1.
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • The DSX import has been improved so that the cycle of loading
    and free'ing objects no longer occurs.
