Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Use of the DataSet Management Tool, invoked from the Tools menu
    of the DataStage Designer.
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
If you use the Data Set Management tool from the Designer (to
view schema or data in a Parallel Data Set created by a PX
job), it creates a separate ISF session which is not closed
when the tool exits. The session is marked as "DataStage
Designer" in the Web Console (like the main Designer session).
Every time you invoke the Data Set Management tool, it starts a
new session, and this will only go away after you exit the tool
period is set to (e.g. 30 mins). So you can see what look like
inactive Designer sessions, but they may not be. This may also
lead to inability for other users to startnew sessions, if a
large number of abandoned sessions have not timed out and are
    still consuming resources in WAS.
    ****************************************************************
    RECOMMENDATION:
Apply the "8.1 Critical Performance Patch", of which this fix
      is part.
This change is included in 8.1 Fix Pack 1.
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • The tool has been changed to that is correctly logs out of the
session when the tool is closed.
