Error description

  • Information Server 801 FP1A: DSD.RUN processes not going away
and jobs remain in a "running" state, though the job has really
finished from a PX perspective and all the osh processes have
gone away. These processes cannot be killed, as they seem to be
in an I/O waiting state and the machine needs to be re-booted to
    clear them up.

Local fix

  • This fix is included in 8.0.1 fix pack 3

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
    UNIX platforms running parallel jobs
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
The DSD.RUN process which starts a parallel job can hang. A
timeout alarm can occur during processing that results in
DSD.RUN missing the receipt of the osh pid and return code from
    the pipe.
    ****************************************************************
    RECOMMENDATION:
Patches have been provided on Redhat 8.0.1.1 and Suse 7.5.3.
Fix will be committed into further source.
This fix is included in 8.1 FP1 for RedHat/Suse Intel,
    Solaris, HP-Itanium.
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • A new executable has been introduced on UNIX called OshWrapper
to handle the receipt of osh pid and return code. OshWrapper
will be run in place of the OshExecuter.sh script.
