APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • If the 'Buffer' option is set in the output of a stage in a PX
job and the regional settings on the Windows client have a
decimal separator which is not the decimal point (period)
character, the job will fail to run. This was originally seen
with German (Germany/Austria) regional settings on the Windows
client, but is likely to affect many other client regions.

Local fix

  • The workaround is to add the following environment variable to
the job properties: APT_BUFFERING_POLICY and leave all stages as
    buffering mode=default.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users where regional settings have a decimal separator which is
not the period / decimal point character
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
If the problem occurs, the user will see an error when the job
    runs, similar to the following
          "main_program: Fatal
Error: Invalid buffering parameters specified for data
    set ..."
Examination of the generated Osh code will
show (for example) "buffer (bufferFreeRun=0,5,..." 0,5
    instead of "buffer (bufferFreeRun=0.5, ..."
    ****************************************************************
    RECOMMENDATION:
If the problem is observed, and regional settings are required
on the client, installation of patch JR32807 is recommended.
This change is included in 8.1 FP1
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • With this fix, the code for bufferFreeRun should always be
generated using a decimal point / period character as the
decimal separator, irrespective of the regional settings on the
    client machine.

Temporary fix
