JR32520: STRANGE DATA ON CFF BY VIEWDATA WITH SEMICOLON IN DESCRIPTION

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The customer has ';' (semicolon) in "Description" field on
  [Source] tab on CFF stage. And they cannot get the correct data
  for the column which Description has semicolon when viewing
  data.
  Actually, they have a column which is prepared as spare. 1 byte
  space should be set to the column. And there is a semicolon in
  "Description" of this column like "CHAR(69);". The data of this
  column should be 1 byte space, but unexpected data is set at
  viewing data.
  

Local fix

• Our customer already know that it is possible to avoid the
  issue by removing the semicolon. But they are requesting to be
  provided a patch for this issue.
  
  This fix is included in 8.0.1 fixpack 3

  On a CFF stage, if the column definitions contains semicolons
  in the description field they will cause the view data to
  display incorrect data.

  Install the patch for this APAR JR32520.
  This change is included in 8.1 Fix Pack 1.

Problem conclusion

• The view data parser is interpreting the semicolon as a
  separator and therefore gets the wrong metadata for the stage.
  Fix the information sent to the parser. The fix is a clientside
  fix to the logic when constructing stage info.
