APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Simple two stage job with oracle enterprise source stage and
peek target stage will abort immediately with a stack trace that
begins with *** glibc detected *** osh: malloc(): memory
    corruption: 0x084ecd78 ***

The remainder of the stack trace will show that the error occurs
in a call to malloc that originates from the function within the
oracle enterprise stage that is being called to make the
    connection.

The issue occurs when the remote server property contains a long
    connection string value.

Local fix

  • Use a connection string that is shorter than 128 bytes

This fix is included in 8.0.1 fix pack 3

    RECOMMENDATION:

Problem conclusion

  • The server argument from osh command line is held in a char
[128] buffer, which is generally ample.
But it fell short in a case where a customer gave some thing
    (legal of course ) like:

    -server
    '(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=checker
    s.crackerbarrel.com)(PORT=1530)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED
    )(SERVICE_NAME=DW01D)))'

The buffer over run caused user to receive a message on memory
    corruption.
We have made the buffer dynamically sized to avoid such buffer
    over runs.

Temporary fix
