Error description

  • When trying to import sequential file definition into
    DataStage, the

import process incorrectly identifies data columns.

Although " is specified as the quote character and the string
    fields
are enclosed in double quotes, if one of the string fields has
    a period

in it, some quoted fields are imported as Numeric type.

Also if a field has a comma, that can change which field is
    incorrectly
identified as numeric. See CRM for details, including the data
    file.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users may see this problem when importing table definitions
    fromsequential file data.
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
This may be seen when importing table definitions from
    sequential file data.
If there are quoted fields in the data that contain comma
characters, then the suggested data types will be offset by one
after that field containing the comma.
Quoted fields that contain a single period character somewhere
in the quoted value will be suggested as Numeric, even if there
are no numeric characters in the string.

    RECOMMENDATION:

This fix is included in 8.1 FP1

Problem conclusion

  • The resolution was to correct the parsing of quoted fields to
handle the quoted comma as part of the field rather than as a
    field separator.
The numeric test was also improved to verify that the quote
field containing the single period character was made up of
    digits.
