Error description

  • Communications Server for Linux, Version 6.4

With a large number of SSL clients, the TN3270 Server process
    may core dump.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • In the interface to the GSKit (SSL) code, there is a poll
mechanism for file descriptors (sockets, for our purposes)
to let us know when data is available for reading. For this
poll mechanism, there is a limit of 1024 descriptors, above
which behavior "becomes unpredictable". Whether it continues
to work as expected beyond that appears to depend on the
specific OS and GSKit levels in use.

Problem conclusion

  • The TN Server code has been modified to work within this
    limitation.
