Error description

  • Communications Server for AIX, Version 6.4
    ------------------------------------------
Crash in sna_v5router64 during startup at boot time.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • USERS AFFECTED: All users.

    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
During a failed startup of SNA at bot time, the kernel crashed
with a stack showing the logging function
    vll_router_write_log_to_buf called from vpr_stream_open. The
problem was seen when snatpsrvd is attempting to issue an open
to the logger function in the kernel, but any of the SNA
processes could trigger this. The dump showed that the
snaerrlog process was no longer running.

    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
There is a very small window where the logging code has been
initialized and then terminated while a log entry is being
    generated.

Problem conclusion

  • Additional locking code has been added to protect against this
    window.

Temporary fix

  • sna_v5router64
