Error description

  • Communications Server for AIX
    -----------------------------
Hang in kernel lock error on AIX 6.1.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • USERS AFFECTED: All users on AIX 6.1.

This hang is triggered during the initial load of the CS/AIX
kernel drivers, when an attempt to create a kernel lock fails
due to a call to xmalloc for some memory from the pinned_heap
failed. When CSAIX attempts to report the error, the error
reporting code assumed that the kernel lock was available for
use. Attempting to use the lock caused the hang.

Problem conclusion

  • The error reporting code has been modified to not use the locks
when the error is about the locks. In this case, it will instead
use the system errpt to report the initialization error.

Temporary fix
