Error description

  • In the new set of PCs we install IBM Personal Communications
    6.0.1 as 3270 emulation program. The prints that are produced
    by the new PCOM release are not identical to those produced by
    the old one, PCOM 5.7. In this case the issue we have verified
    is that for every print job there are produced twice the number
    of printed pages: each page is printed followed by a blank
    page.

    This, in addition to generating unnecessary white sheets, is
    causing a problem to a program of printing process that expects
    a specific incoming print spool but it get a different one.

    The currently working system is Windows XP SP3 with IBM
    Personal Communications v5.7. The new system that is not
    working properly is Windows 7 64 bit with IBM Personal
    Communications V6.0.1.

    The docs are CICS output that are launched from a CICS session
    emulation: they are sent to another emulation session always
    on the same PC. The tests we have done are by printing the same
    procedure with the same input data

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * A blank was produced by printer at the end of a print job *
    * when the job contains a new line at the end of a page. This *
    * problem is only evident on Operating Systems above Windows *
    * XP.                                                          *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    A Form Feed is generated by IBM Personal Communications printer
    session when a newline is present at the end of a page. If this
    is immediately followed by EM (End of Marker / End of Job), one
    more Form Feed is added. Windows XP and prior operating systems
    chose to ignore the additional Form Feed. However, this behavior
    has changed after Windows XP.

    To ignore the Form Feed in the latest Windows operating systems,
    a code change is introduced into PCOMM. This change is guarded
    with the Keyword "IgnExtFF" under the "Printers" section in file
    PCSWIN.INI. By default, this keyword is OFF. it can be turned ON
    by adding the following in the PCSWIN.INI file:

    [Printers]
    IgnExtFF = Y

Problem conclusion

  • PCSPD.DLL has been modified to take appropriate action to
    prevent duplicate Form Feed at the end of the print job.

    Fix scheduled for PCOM 6.0.14 Refresh Pack.

Temporary fix
