Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * * IBM Personal Communications users with Host Code Page * * 1390/1399 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * * The IBM Personal Communications documentation for Unicode * * Support states that "Record and play macros" feature is * * supported in Unicode for 1390/1399 Japanese character * * processing. However, while recording a macro, some of the * * Unicode unique characters are represented as '?' in the * * generated macro file. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * ****************************************************************
Problem conclusion
Under the current design of IBM Personal Communications, the locale setting is used to determine the preferred text encoding type, which is SHIFT_JIS PC code page in this case. Since the Unicode unique characters do not have equivalents under SHIFT_JIS PC code page, these characters are replaced by '?' in the generated macro file. This is currently a design limitation.
