Abstract

Readme files for the IBM Spectrum Protect™ HSM for Windows and IBM® Tivoli® Storage Manager HSM for Windows are available when there is a fix pack update.

Tip: Beginning with Version 7.1.3, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager HSM for Windows is now IBM Spectrum Protect HSM for Windows. Some applications such as the software fulfillment systems and IBM License Metric Tool use the new product name. However, the software and its product documentation continue to use the Tivoli Storage Manager HSM for Windows product name. IBM Spectrum Protect™ HSM for Windows provides Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) for Windows New Technology Files System (NTFS) and Resilient File Systems (ReFS). Individual files and files from parts of the file systems are migrated to remote storage on the IBM Spectrum Protect server.

What's new in the HSM for Windows 7.1.2 client


Support for Windows alternate data streams
With the new feature for Windows alternate data streams (ADS), you can complete the following tasks:
  • You can copy ADS data to Tivoli Storage Manager storage when the HSM for Windows client migrates a file.
  • You can back up ADS data when the backup-archive client backs up a stub file.
  • You can retrieve ADS data when when a migrated file is retrieved by the HSM for Windows client and when a stub file is restored by the backup-archive client.
  • You can automatically recall a file without recalling the ADS data. The ADS data on the file system is not changed.

The HSM for Windows 7.1.2 client also contains APAR fixes (maintenance).

The Tivoli Storage Manager backup-archive client and API must be at the same fix pack level as the HSM for Windows client. The backup-archive client and API must be at the same interim fix level as the HSM for Windows client or at a greater interim fix level. For example, the backup-archive client and API and HSM for Windows client must all be at fix pack level 7.1.2. If the HSM for Windows client is at interim fix level 7.1.2.x, the backup-archive client and API must be at interim fix level 7.1.2.y, where y is equal to or greater than x.
