IBM collaborates with SAP to win InnoJam Award at SAP TechEd Las Vegas

Date: September 15, 2011

SAP InnoJam at TechEd Las Vegas was an intense competition between 13 teams performing 34 hours of programming to create innovative business applications that leverage the latest technology. This year's overarching goal was to create Gamified business applications -- those that are entertaining, engaging, and that give users (or as they say: players) a positive and motivating experience with SAP software.

The winning team created a "Travel Booking System" that provides incentives for employees to make smart travel decisions such as lowest cost options and advanced bookings that save their company money -- while at the same time providing employees with reward points they can redeem to select various prizes.

This winning application leveraged SAP HANA and Business Analytics software plus BusinessObjects Xcelsius, running on IBM's Smart Cloud Enterprise (including System x hardware).

The winning team, named Team Incentivators, is made up of Gagan Reen and Igor Naumov from IBM Global Business Services and Ranjit Anand from SAP. A six minute video of the team presenting their application is available at

They worked with extended team members spread across the US, Europe, and India. The main method of communication was IBM collaboration tools including IBM Connections (Communities, Files, Wiki, Blog), Lotus Sametime, LotusLive, and Lotus Notes. These tools were extremely effective for working among a dispersed team that had a common goal with an urgent deadline.
