High-volume point-of-sale (POS) data, combined with the need to turn transaction data into actionable business information, represents a continuing challenge for retailers of all sizes. This challenge demands extreme performance and scalability from the supporting software applications and IT infrastructure. And retailers want reassurance that their infrastructure and applications will interface smoothly to best meet their performance, reliability and cost requirements.
Together, IBM and SAP initiated the Retail Trilogy Project, a multi-month, multi-million dollar proof of technology project for the retail industry. Through rigorous testing, the project proved that SAP applications can be scaled from small to large industry volumes— from 300 to 3000 stores, 75,000 active SKUs, 32 million POS transactions, multiple distribution centers—on a choice of IBM platforms.
