New wave of end user computing
The future is looking smarter. As the planet gets smarter, a new computing model has evolved. We call it Smarter Computing.
Cost: Dramatically lower TCO
Reduce the Total Cost of Ownership for employee desktops - less Capital expense, spend less time and money building, managing, patching, upgrading and supporting PCs.
Complexity: Simpler to install and manage
Reduce the resources spent on deploying and upgrading operating systems and desktop software. Provide secure remote access to user desktops and applications while keeping your confidential data safe.
Coverage: Integrated offline, online, branch
Deliver a high quality user experience quickly and easily, regardless of time, location (branch or mobile), connection (online or offline), or device. Better support growth initiatives for mobility and flexible work location.
What is it?
IBM Virtual Desktop for Smart Business is an end-to-end desktop management solution that lowers the barriers of adoption - cost, complexity, and coverage - traditionally associated with virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) technology. It allows access to a personal PC desktop from anywhere, using any device, using the Virtual Enterprise Remote Desktop Environment (VERDE) from Virtual Bridges
How does it work?
IBM Virtual Desktop for Smart Business provides virtual Windows or Linux desktops, running on a server that can be accessed from a variety of end user devices such as iPads, thin clients, old desktops, netbooks, and laptops. It combines VDI technology with stateless and personalized dynamic sessions, integrated offline VDI (for disconnected and mobile use) and remote branch support.
Its open architecture provides flexibility and choice by supporting virtual Windows (XP, 7), Linux (Ubuntu, Red Hat, Novell) desktops, and a variety of storage, directory, peripherals, and remote display protocols.
