In order to make the radical changes that are necessary in health care in the U.S. today, we have got to change the way we work with data making it actionable to save lives and save money in healthcare.
We do that by leveraging the alliance and the wealth of data and analytical information we have to show results based on data.
The opportunity we recognized that caused a lot of this restructuring was looking at the healthcare reform and our alliance members. Or members really look at us as an extension of their organization. In order to figure out a way to support that, we had to figure out a way to bring this data and this information together because they were going to have to do it.
And we came back to them with a proposal of how we thought and what we thought it would make sense to do. And our board said yeah, that’s what’s going to get us through this.
One of our core tenants is making information actionable and just doing the analytic and identifying the opportunity is only part of that. Wrapping it with the Business Process Management and inventing and rules that allow you to then bring that into operationally creating that performance improvement is what will ultimately make the data and information actionable.
Not only do we look at performance improvements with respect to clinical procedures, we also look at performance improvement with respect to resource allocation, waste, financial improvement.
Once we are able to collect the analytics and produce for the hospitals a report of how they might compare to another hospital, how they compare across continuum, they can either take that information and act upon it themselves, or we actually have a consulting arm that goes out and works with our members to drive that to implement those changes and create.
Having IBM as a partner and Perficient as a services partner, we feel very positioned to be successful in that to bring together best practices across the industry.
We have been able to show an improvement of over 67% in hip and knee replacements over the last 24 quarters, and for example, an improvement of over 60% in heart bypass procedures over the last 24 quarters.
We have been able to show results across our QUEST initiative for across the last two years of an increase of 43,000 patients receiving care based on evidence-based care as opposed to non-evidence-based care previously which also saved over 2.3 billion in cost and over 23,000 lives.
To be a game changer in the health care industry, you need to leverage data, making data actionable in order to drive performance improvement in health care and support Healthcare Reform.
It will allow Premier to work smarter in order to provide solutions for our members and for our members to be able to work smarter in the delivery of health care.
