Abraham Thomas, Country General Manager, IBM South Africa

  • Abraham Thomas

    Prior to his new appointment as Country General Manager, IBM South Africa, Abraham Thomas was Vice-President of System Sales, Growth Markets Unit, Systems and Technology Group.

    In this role he oversaw sales of the complete range of IBM Servers and Storage Systems in the Asia Pacific, Latin America, CEE and MEA regions, for clients from a diverse set of Industries, from January 1st 2011.

    Prior to that, Abraham held various appointments in the Systems and Technology business in the Asia Pacific and the Growth Markets Units.

    He was also Vice-President of General Business in ASEAN/South Asia from July 2004 to September 2007, where he was responsible for sales and marketing of IBM product and services to this segment of the market.

    Between January 2001 and June 2004, he was the Managing Director of IBM India and IBM Global Services India, based in Bangalore. And prior to this, he was the Director, Financial Services Sector for IBM ASEAN/South Asia, overseeing and managing IBM’s operations, sales and marketing activities to banking, finance, securities and insurance organizations across six countries in this region.


    Abraham began his career with IBM in 1986 as Territory Representative for the Small and Medium Business solutions unit. In his 25 years with IBM, he has undertaken many roles including product management, sales, marketing and various management positions in ASEAN/ SA and in Asia Pacific.

    He was recognized with IBM’s Hundred Per Cent Club, for exceeding his sales quota for eight consecutive years. He was also awarded the 1997 IBM ASEAN/ SA General Manager’s Award for outstanding business performance. He has also been selected for 3 Golden Circles.

    Abraham is a Business Administration graduate from the National University of Singapore. He was an active executive committee member of the Singapore Computer Society and has organized social, networking activities to promote interaction within the local IT industry. He was also a National Council Member of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).

    He was named one of the Top 10 IT Executives of the Year in 2001, in a poll run by the IT Nation Business Review magazine.

    Abraham is a keen golfer and enjoys reading and traveling. He is married and has 3 children.
