Singapore, 6 September 2007 – CASSIS International and IBM today announced the launch of the Smart Poster Management System (SPMS) that enables businesses to be more effective and efficient in providing highly customised levels of service to the individual consumer, and not just merely a segment of consumers. Using the very user-friendly SPMS, consumers with Near Field Communication (NFC) enabled mobile phones just need to tap on a Smart Poster to receive product and location information, quickly access services, conduct transactions, and even request for emergency support. The Smart Poster then initiates a connection to the SPMS to perform the required On-Demand service. There is no need to download any software to the phone prior to usage. All transactions are transmitted via radio frequency to achieve seamless machine-to-machine communication.
This ground-breaking solution platform is the result of a global collaboration that marries CASSIS’ expertise in smart card technologies, service discovery experience and business process expertise; and IBM’s leading systems and software solutions.
By analysing customer usage habits, the system can provide businesses (with prior customer approval via permission marketing) with unparalleled levels of intelligence on customer preferences. This enables businesses to develop and promote new and highly relevant products and services as they better anticipate and meet customers’ needs. This level of intelligence will be especially important to businesses in the tourism, transportation, hospitality, retail sectors and even public service providers.
“We are glad that IBM share our vision, and have partnered us to create this innovative Smart Poster Management System. We have jointly conducted thorough market research on the various NFC projects, and were told that the success of mass adoption of NFC depends very much on having an ecosystem as well as consumer applications, like what Smart Poster can provide,” said Thian Yee Chua, CEO, CASSIS International.
“While the revolutionary Smart Poster Management System allows businesses to be more competitive as they become more relevant to their audience, consumers will likewise enjoy on-demand service in a manner that is very user friendly,” said Nicholas Tan, General Manager, Global, Small & Mid-Market Business, IBM Singapore. “This innovative collaborative effort between Singapore-founded CASSIS and IBM also places Singapore on the forefront of NFC technology development and adoption.”
NFC technology is promoted by a non-profit industry association in 2004 by leading mobile communications, semiconductor and consumer electronics companies. According to the latest research from ABI Research, it is forecasted that by 2012, 20% of the global mobile handset market will ship with built-in NFC capabilities. Currently, there are numerous NFC pilot projects on-going worldwide, including US, Europe, Korea, Japan and Malaysia with participations from mobile operators, financial institutions and international payment associations.
IBM’s solution for SPMS includes the following industry-leading components: • IBM System x, System p servers • IBM DB2 Content Manager enterprise content management software • IBM AIX 5.2 operating system • IBM Tivoli Directory Server (TDS) v5.2 • IBM DB2 Universal Database (UDB) v8.2 • IBM Websphere Application Server v6.0.2 • IBM JDK v1.4.2 Java Developer Kits
