    From Big Bang to Big Data: ASTRON and IBM Collaborate to Explore Origins of the Universe
    Karachi, Pakistan, 02 Apr 2012: ASTRON, the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy and IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced an initial 32.9 million EURO, five-year collaboration to research extremely fast, but low-power exascale computer systems targeted for the international Square Kilometre Array (SKA). The SKA is an international consortium to build the world’s largest and most sensitive radio telescope. Scientists estimate that the processing power required to operate the telescope will be equal to several millions of today’s fastest computers.

    IBM Research Determines Atomic Limits of Magnetic Memory

This is significantly less than today’s disk drives, which use about one million atoms to store a single bit of information.     Retailers with Benefits: When Giving Up Personal Information Really Pays Off
    Karachi, Pakistan, 13 Dec 2011: A new IBM (NYSE: IBM) survey of more than 28,000 consumers released today – the largest global survey of its kind – found that, overwhelmingly, consumers are looking for a more personalized shopping experience and are willing to share select details about themselves with their favorite retailers, in order to educate brands on exactly how, when and where to approach them. Just as we chat with our local shopkeeper, consumers are willing to dish to retailers about their media usage (75 percent); demographics (73 percent); identification, such as name and address (61 percent); lifestyle (59 percent); and location (56 percent) for a more targeted and smarter shopping experience.

    IBM Study Reveals Challenges Midmarket CMOs Face to Sustain Brand Loyalty with Today's Social Consumer
    A new global IBM (NYSE: IBM) study of Midmarket Chief Marketing Officers (CMOs) revealed that building and sustaining brand loyalty is the top concern for today's midmarket CMOs, yet 72 percent do not feel sufficiently prepared to effectively build this loyalty. Additionally, 70 percent of midmarket CMOs are concerned about data explosion, as they are tasked with making sense of highly complex information generated constantly from a variety of sources such as consumer blogs, tweets, mobile texts and videos.
