New Survey Indicates Businesses See More Opportunity in Cloud
New York, NY, October 12, 2011 – IBM today unveiled the industry’s first cloud services and technology advances to offer enterprises unprecedented choice, security and portability in moving key enterprise business applications and processes into cloud environments.
In order to accelerate the shift from experimentation, development and assessment of cloud models to full scale enterprise deployment of business applications, IBM is building upon its existing SmartCloud portfolio with new services including a enterprise-grade platform as a service, starter kits for rapid private cloud deployment, new industry-specific cloud services and significant expansion of the IBM SmartCloud ecosystem.
According to a major new survey of business and technology leaders, more than sixty percent of enterprises revealed plans to adopt cloud computing business models in order to move beyond the operational effectiveness benefits of cloud and significantly enhance their ability to address Big Data, collaboration capacity and the mobile device explosion.
The study indicates a fundamental shift in the competitive business landscape and the possibilities of cloud computing as a new platform for enterprises to create and deliver value to customers. Respondents indicated that new technology and social connectivity trends are creating challenges traditional IT models aren’t equipped to address, signaling cloud-based business models as ideal to transform internal operations, customer relationships and industry value chains.
More specifically, IBM is launching:
- IBM SmartCloud Application Services – A new secure and scalable platform-as-a-service specifically designed to meet the needs of enterprise clients to develop, deploy, manage and integrate both traditional and new web based cloud applications in minutes rather than weeks..
- SmartCloud Foundation – IBM is unveiling breakthrough entry-level cloud software and hardware allowing companies to quickly design and deploy private cloud environments moving them beyond virtualization to a new level of control over cloud service delivery and management.
- SmartCloud for Industries – IBM is extending its growth as one of the largest SaaS providers unveiling new Smarter Commerce on a Cloud solutions for clients such as Autotrader, Danone, DBS Bank, Guidewell, McKesson, PETCO, Sears, Staples, Target Corp., True Value, VISA, Whirlpool, Winn-Dixie and many others to transform their marketing, sales, service and supply chain functions.
- SmartCloud Ecosystem – IBM partners and ISV ecosystem are offering new services to help thousands of small and medium business clients adopt cloud models and manage millions of cloud based transactions by assisting their customers in areas as diverse as banking, communications, healthcare and government to build their own clouds or securely tap into the IBM SmartCloud.
IBM began its cloud initiative nearly five years ago establishing “Blue Cloud” labs around the world to accelerate collaboration with innovative clients, governments and universities. Cloud is now a core growth area for IBM expected to drive $7 billion in revenue by 2015 in hardware, software and services.
