IBM India ranks No 1 in x86 Blade Server Revenues in Q2 2009

Garners a whopping 50.9% market share in Q2 2009

India, September 11, 2009: IBM was the leader in India’s x86 Blade Server Market in revenue terms in Q2 2009, according to IDC. With a whopping 22.6 points revenue share increase YTY, IBM led the x86 Blade server market segment in Q2 2009 with a 50.9% share according to IDC’s Asia/Pacific Enterprise Server Tracker, Q2 2009, September 2009 release. The overall x86 Blade server segment contracted 18% YTY in revenues in India in Q2 2009.

According to company sources, IBM was one of the first companies to roll out a revamped x86 server line-up around Intel’s latest processor, Xeon 5500 chips or Gainestown (Codenamed Nehalem). This is IBM’s most comprehensive upgrade to its family of x86 products. IBM’s latest x86 systems can handle 3.5-times more bandwidth and 2.25-times better performance for enterprise computing, in addition to significant reduction in power costs (up to a 60 percent reduction in power when these systems are idle and up to 25 percent reduction when fully utilized. IBM estimates a yearly cost savings of up to $100 per server versus earlier models). In this quarter, IBM had some significant wins including Religare and CBay.
