Get Splashing - for online information on your local bathing water sites

The EPA was making waves today with the launch of the new online bathing water quality website Splash. The map-based website, www.bathingwater.ie provides the latest information, supplied by local authorities, on compliance status with EU bathing water quality standards at the 131 designated bathing sites around the country. The site also provides information about the compliance history of these bathing sites, from 2003 onwards.

Dr. Mary Kelly, EPA Director General said:

“This website is an excellent example of collaboration between IBM’s Water Management Centre of Excellence in Dublin, the EPA and An Taisce working closely together to provide easily accessible and useful information to the public and is a good example of how smart green technologies can be deployed. We will be working to bring other information about the environment direct to citizens in the future.”

Alex Ingle, Strategy, Development & Innovation Leader for IBM Ireland said: “This collaboration between IBM, EPA and An Taisce is a prime example of how the application of emerging technologies is helping to build a planet which is instrumented, interconnected and intelligent. Not only are these technologies key to building what IBM calls a Smarter Planet, but they are also the foundations for the Smart Economy.”
