DUBLIN, IRELAND - 09 Apr 2008: IBM (NYSE: IBM) -- The 2008 annual e-readiness ranking of the world's largest economies, using a model developed by the Economist Intelligence Unit in co-operation with the IBM Institute for Business Value, reveals today that Ireland has retained 21st position in the e-readiness rankings for 2008.

A country’s “e-readiness” is a measure of its e-business environment, a collection of factors that indicate how amenable a market is to Internet-based opportunities. Increasingly, it is also about how individuals and businesses consume digital goods and services.

Ireland scored 8.03 out of 10, up from 7.86, with the US leading the way on 8.95 ahead of Hong Kong on 8.91 and Sweden in third place on 8.85.

Global E-readiness ranking is assessed across six category indicators:

  • connectivity & technology infrastructure
  • business environment
  • social & cultural environment
  • legal environment
  • government policy & vision
  • consumer & business adoption
