IBM Tivoli Software GM Declares New Era for IT Industrialization During Pulse 2008
Several new IBM software and services to be announced this week
ORLANDO, FL – 19 May 2008: Today at its Pulse 2008 conference, IBM (NYSE: IBM) announced new software and services aimed to help propel businesses into the new era of industrialized IT operations.
In his keynote address to more than 4,000 IBM clients, business partners and employees, IBM Tivoli Software General Manager Al Zollar detailed how, much like the assembly line and automation transformed the automobile and telecommunications industries over the past century, IT operations are ripe for industrialization.
The industrialization of IT operations includes a process of continuous innovation that uses automation and best practices to link together the phases of designing, delivering and managing IT systems. Zollar told the audience this will lower the cost of technology management and open doors to new business opportunities for organizations competing in the new global economy.
“While IT organizations have automated some functions and are adopting best practices, the industrialization of operations is still in the early stages of applying automation towards the efficient use existing assets, ultimately allowing businesses to deliver timely, cost-effective, and quality services and products,” said Al Zollar, general manager, IBM Tivoli Software. “IBM is in the unique position to provide the software, hardware and services to help our clients move beyond silo management to industrialized operations.”
As new applications being deployed are causing an increased growth in workloads being run out of data centers, IT infrastructure and operations executives are investing in service management to meet the building pressure to deliver quality services to their business and customers at lower costs.

New software for a greener world -- IBM introduced an action plan and new software offerings to help businesses join the green movement and reap the benefits of embracing technology that delivers increased efficiency while being friendly to the environment. IBM "Software for a Greener World" includes new offerings that track energy consumption in the data center and enable IT managers to adjust power usage to reduce costs and control carbon emissions. The new offerings are Tivoli Monitoring for Green Energy Manager, IBM Maximo Facility Management and IBM Compliance Warehouse for Legal Control -- as well as enhancements to IBM Active Energy Manager, introduced last year.

New energy optimization software – As part of the action plan created to help businesses become green, IBM debuted software that will help customers address the growing need to maximize energy efficiency and reduce costs associated with power and cooling while also providing them with tools to maintain service levels and performance. IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Green Energy provides energy management information that enables the optimization of data center and facility assets.

New Software for growing mid-market businesses – IBM launched new software designed to help mid-market customers manage their businesses more effectively, and a new Tivoli Deployment Accreditation initiative that recognizes business partners who have built skills around Tivoli's broad suite of offerings to address the needs of these customers. Part of its ongoing commitment to this market, IBM will expand Tivoli software offerings for this market, and assist growing mid sized businesses choose solutions to help them better manage their network infrastructures.
New service management software – IBM announced several new software releases, services and tools to help organizations make the most of their technology infrastructure investments. These new and enhanced offerings support clients’ efforts to deliver improved quality IT services at lower costs and aligned with business goals. The offerings include new Healthcheck services for service management, IBM Tivoli Unified Process, a new unified foundation for service desk and process automation, IBM Tivoli System Automation Application Manager, IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager, IBM Event Management and Monitoring services, and IBM Tivoli Service Management Center for System z.

Also this week, IBM will announce news around its security software, and the next evolution of its industry-leading asset management software.
New Maximo Asset Management software – IBM will release the availability of its enterprise asset management product, Maximo Asset Management. The new version of the software includes linear management functionality that is particularly relevant for industries that need to manage the unique attributes of linear assets.
Alcatel-Lucent Selects Tivoli Identity Manager – IBM will announce details on Alcatel-Lucent’s selection of IBM Tivoli identity management software to help manage the user identities of its employees, contractors, suppliers, resellers and other business partners.
New Federated Identity Management software – IBM will issue information on the new release of IBM Tivoli Federated Identity Manager software, which will further simplifythe sharing of data between trusted parties -- such as business partners or separately managed divisions within an organization -- with secure application integration and single-sign on technology.
