IBM teams up with Service Alberta to integrate government services
Edmonton, Alta, 11 December, 2008: Sharing and integrating services across multiple government ministries is the mission of Service Alberta. From registering a car to buying a house or starting a business, these services should be accessed easily and seamlessly by all Albertans. Such a complex undertaking can only be accomplished with trusted partners.
IBM has recently been given the task of consolidating several mainframe environments into one optimized infrastructure. This new infrastructure will provide efficient and standardized shared services across the Government, using a consolidated, world-class mainframe application hosting environment.
Eventually all existing Government-managed systems and various outsourced mainframe environments will be phased into this new infrastructure. This new service coordination initiative represents a major transformation in the delivery of current Government services.
In addition to a new enterprise-wide delivery model, the solution provides for business continuity and disaster recovery services, and service management processes that will reduce redundancies and complexities. IBM will combine their expertise and experience to leverage economies of scale, common tools and processes.
"IBM is supporting Service Alberta's vision to be 'one government, one enterprise and one employer driving innovation and excellence in service delivery' across the province," said Bernie Kollman, Public Sector Executive, IBM. "This will be accomplished through delivering high-value service and cost savings for the people of Alberta."
This Service Alberta agreement was reached after a competitive procurement process. This is the second phase of a four-phase project.
