MONTREAL, QC – 19 NOV 2008 – Following the example of dozens of other Quebec hospitals, Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital (MRH) selected IBM to simplify the exchange of clinical and administrative information among the hospital's computer systems and applications.
MRH is relying on the Ingenio integration solution produced by Artefact Informatique, a division of LGS Group Inc., an IBM company, which will also provide consulting services, training, and integration assistance.
More than 15 applications have already been integrated and put into production by the MRH team — including those used by the pharmaceutical, financial, laboratory, and admissions departments.
With more than 350,000 outpatient visits and 80,000 emergency room visits per year, MRH is one of Canada's busiest hospitals. MRH uses several intra-hospital computer systems and a variety of clinical and administrative applications that manage essential patient data. The need to exchange information necessitates the use of software that can enable information to be distributed quickly and securely.
Hospitals typically use a variety of applications to manage essential data, which can result in problems for caregivers and increase the risk of errors when systems aren't compatible.
"Maisonneuve-Rosemont hospital must update its corporate integration solution to enable it to quickly move forward with the numerous projects it has under development," said Martin Delage, MRH's technology and information resources manager. "Ingenio's integration solution seemed the best choice for us because it has already proven itself in our radiology department. Specifically designed for the healthcare sector, this middleware adapts easily to our requirements. Extending its use to all the hospital's departments is a wise choice."
Ingenio has also been chosen by the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Québec, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Sainte-Justine, Centre de santé et de services sociaux de Chicoutimi, Hôtel-Dieu de Lévis, Technocentre Saguenay Lac-St-Jean and the Centre de santé et de services sociaux du Nord de Lanaudière.
Ingenio is compatible with the Health Level 7 (HL7) version 3 standard chosen by Canada Health Infoway—an organization whose mission is to accelerate the adoption of online health information systems in Canada. Ingenio can also convert messages from earlier versions or other standards in order to meet the current provincial HL7 version 3 requirements.
