IBM’s RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) solution framework provides our clients with a set of products that can help them to design and build solutions to meet their business requirements. The framework portfolio consists of IBM RFID Software, combined with IBM enterprise Middleware, Hardware and Services that provide an end-to-end solution to our clients. IBM has a breadth and depth of RFID offerings to help our clients understand and implement RFID solutions based upon business processes and business objectives. Our IBM team can work with the clients to understand their business needs and tailor a solution from a set of service offerings that ranges from assessing the need for an RFID solution, planning and designing, implementing and up to running and operating on the Client’s behalf. This is in addition to our Slap and Ship RFID solutions that are tailored to help our clients to complying to the RFID mandates coming from the major retailers and manufacturers worldwide. RFID is currently being used for identifying and tracking items to enable new levels of decision making. Some examples for the uses of RFID technology:
- Supply Chain Management: Transform supply chains by providing end-to-end visibility of goods and enabling improved inventory management
- Work In Process Manufacturing: Drive new levels of manufacturing efficiency by enabling effective inventory tracking, management and Just in Time (JIT) production line efficiencies
- Asset Monitoring and Tracking: Create new levels of information and insight by enabling point, real time and any time tracking of physical assets (plants, truck fleets, PCs etc) to drive asset ROI
- Traceability: Transform tracking to provide end-to-end tracing of an object throughout its life cycle
- Security & Access Control: Enable greater security by monitoring the ability to gain access to buildings and valuable equipment
- Better visibility / transparency throughout the supply chain, reducing costs and improving profits.
- Increased efficiency and accuracy through virtually instantaneous information
- Expedite transaction processing with no line of sight required
- Improve product visibility where customers can “see” their products, perhaps in real-time
- ‘Track & trace’ and authentication improvements with the ability to identify discrete items
- Replenishment, manufacturing, operations, and alarms all enable “triggered’ processes or automation
- IBM is positioned to provide all the necessary infrastructure required to implement a RFID solution:
- Hardware
- Wireless Software/middleware
- Device operation management, deployment & support
- Secure & scalable solutions
- Global coverage & Global financing
- Partnering capabilities across value chain
- IBM has PRFID partnerships with over 25 leading technology players including produces of readers, tags & chips, software & storage solutions.
