Corporate Service Corps

Ranked as the ninth largest country in the world, Kazakhstan became a Corporate Service Corps destination in 2011. The first team deployed to Almaty, the country’s largest city and former capital.

  “Our team of 13 represented 5 countries—Brazil, India, Japan, South Korea, and the United States. We were divided into teams to work on five unique projects in the thriving city of Almaty, the former capital of Kazakhstan. We provided consulting services for city government, a local university, a microcredit organization, a non-financial exports company, and a health and human rights NGO. Project activities included: business planning for the Information & Analytical Center of Almaty to help promote dialogue between society and state; development of a business case for Marketing and Fundraising strategies and IT Consulting for the Centre of Online Education for Disabled People at Turan University; Updating a business plan for financial services and introduction and design of a SPM system at the Microcredit Organization Asian Credit Fund; development of internet marketing and social networking strategies for exports and investments at Kaznex Invest; web site improvement, marketing, and best practices training for Amansaulyk, a health and human rights NGO.

  We spent time with some very talented children at a local orphanage in Almaty on IBM’s Day of Service. They put on a series of amazing performances for us and we shared information about our cultures through dancing, soccer, face painting, origami making, and chess playing. It meant so much to us to have the opportunity to visit these wonderful children.

  We became very close by eating breakfast together everyday, having dinner picnics, seeing a ballet, taking trips together, and sharing cultural experiences and norms. The bond we formed is so strong that we plan a team reunion in the future.”

  Location: Astana, Kazakhstan

  Kazakhenergoekspertiza: Project objective was to help and advise AO "Kazahenergoekspertiza" in the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan to improve energy efficiency in Kazakhstan

  Atameken Union: project aimed to create online crowd sourcing collaboration platform helping NGO to review bills and achieve mission of protecting the rights of Kazakhstani entrepreneurs.

  KAZNEX INVEST: Assist in initial phases of the creation, implementation and marketing of a new National Export Website to aid mission of promoting non-raw Kazakhstani exports.

  Provided career development guidance and information on doing business internationally at a session with students of Nazarbayev University.

  Fond team memories include a weekend trip to Borovoe, a team karaoke night, and our final dinner on the eve of the first team departures.
