IBM volunteers to train central businesses

Nine volunteers from American company IBM Corporation will arrive in central Da Nang City today as part of a program to provide information technology (IT) and management skills training for local businesses.

Known as “Corporate Service Corps” (CSC), the program is designed to develop the leadership abilities of IBM employees by sending volunteers to “emerging markets” countries like Vietnam, the Philippines and Romania, among others.

During their one-month stay, the volunteers work on separate projects supporting local small-and medium-sized businesses – including helping Da Nang Software Industrial Joint-Stock Company enter the Australian market, establishing a financial management system for Hai Van Trading and General Service Ltd., and training staff of Dong A College in IT sales and marketing.

Next month, another nine-member CSC volunteer group will also visit Da Nang. Launched in July, CSC is a competitive program at IBM. This year, 100 candidates out of 5,000 employee applicants were chosen for the program which includes a three month study of destination countries, one month of in-country service and two months of post-service and experience sharing.

IBM said it would select another 100 volunteers before the end of the year and plans to recruit 600 people for the program over the next three years
