Reinventing Education

Maryland

Through Reinventing Education, IBM and the Maryland State Department of Education worked together to help educators, parents, community members, and students understand the kinds of skills and knowledge necessary for high academic achievement and success on Maryland's assessment program. By accessing the Public Access Viewer within the Department of Education's Web site, parents and community members throughout the state were able to see rubrics and benchmarks that demonstrated exactly what high-quality performance looked like and received an in-depth understanding of the state assessment program.

Because of changes sparked by federal No Child Left Behind legislation, IBM is now working with the Department of Education to identify areas where IBM can assist the state with the new Maryland School Assessment testing program. This includes exploring ways to facilitate collaboration, communication, and consistency in the development and dissemination of Assessment Tasks and Instructional Interventions, using Web-based tools including Riverdeep Learning Village and the Reinventing Education Change Management Toolkit.
