Reinventing Education

Durham, North Carolina

Through Reinventing Education, IBM and the Durham Public Schools are working together to strengthen the connections between home, school and community in order to better support student learning.

Using Riverdeep Learning Village, parents and teachers are communicating together online on homework assignments, student performance, and other education issues. Because communication is asynchronous, parents can ask teachers questions about their children's progress at any time and from anywhere, and teachers can respond back in both a timely and convenient manner. The technology is being implemented in all of the district's middle schools, as well as three elementary schools and one high school; the district has plans to continue to expand the project in all of its schools.

Duke University has been a major partner in the project, providing additional support and resources.
