Reinventing Education Change Toolkit

In the context of federal No Child Left Behind legislation, school leaders need practical, effective strategies that will make school reform efforts more efficient, more successful and more lasting. IBM's Reinventing Education Change Toolkit, based on the work of Harvard Professor Rosabeth Moss Kanter, provides them with these tools:

  • Resources to help school leaders learn about effective change strategies and get customized feedback on their own situations and tailored change management advice.
  • More than 30 diagnostic tools to assess organizational readiness and aptitude in change management, as well as real-life vignettes from educators who have been successful at creating substantial, lasting change.
  • Supporting resources for school improvement, focused on: learning alignment; data driven decision-making; quality teaching and effective interventions; and parental support and community collaboration.
  • A forum for online collaboration and discussion to enable teams to work together and share documents, "to do" lists, meeting minutes, and lessons learned.
  • Access to the skills and expertise of educators around the globe who are implementing new assessment systems, undertaking organizational reforms, and creating effective instructional programs and broad-based community alliances.

Used consistently and comprehensively, the Change Toolkit empowers innovators and change leaders to implement reforms that raise the quality of education and enable all children to achieve at higher levels. The Change Toolkit provides school leaders with a framework for understanding change and a structured approach to making change happen, allowing them to move from goals for school improvement to real strategies for success.

The Change Toolkit is based on the work of Rosabeth Moss Kanter, Arbuckle Professor at the Harvard Business School, and is supported by our partners, the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), and the Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement (GLISI).
